A hot tub filled with water and people can weigh as much as a car—6,000 to 10,000 pounds depending on size. Standard decks handle 50 pounds per square foot; a spa demands 100 or more. Installing one on a rooftop requires structural engineering that most contractors avoid. We specialize in exactly this kind of challenge.
Our engineers calculate load paths from spa to joists to beams to foundation. Reinforcement typically means doubled or tripled joists at 12-inch spacing directly under the tub, oversized beams, and footings designed for concentrated loads. We also coordinate the 220V electrical service, dedicated water supply, and drainage for overflow and maintenance—all run through the building properly.
The finished installation integrates seamlessly with your deck design: the spa sits at the right height for easy entry, privacy screens shield you from neighbors, lighting sets the mood for evening use, and the access path handles delivery and future service. Chicago winters mean proper insulation and winterization, so your spa stays ready year-round.
