Interlocking Paver Surfaces
Interlocking pavers transform driveways, patios, and walkways into durable surfaces that outperform poured concrete in Chicago's challenging climate. Unlike solid slabs that crack under freeze-thaw stress, individual pavers flex with ground movement and can be individually replaced if damaged. Available in concrete, clay brick, and natural stone options, pavers offer design flexibility from classic herringbone patterns to contemporary large-format layouts—all while providing the load-bearing capacity needed for vehicle traffic or the refined finish desired for entertaining spaces.
Successful paver installation depends entirely on what happens beneath the surface. We excavate to proper depth based on intended use—deeper for driveways, standard for patios—then install compacted aggregate base in layers. Bedding sand is screeded to precise grade before pavers are set in pattern. Edge restraints lock the field in place while polymeric joint sand fills gaps, preventing shifting and weed growth. For areas with drainage concerns, we specify permeable paver systems that allow water infiltration.
The finished paver surface delivers decades of performance with minimal maintenance. Unlike concrete that requires costly removal when damaged, individual pavers can be lifted for utility access or repairs, then reset seamlessly. Seal coating protects against stains and enhances color retention.
